VIETNAM WAR VETERAN AND WIFE TO SIGN THEIR BOOK OF LOVE LETTERS AT JASPER LIBRARY
The authors and editors of “Vietnam War Love Story: The Love Letters of Bill and Nancy Young (1967),” will be speaking and signing their book at the Jasper Public Library 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec.15th.
The non-fiction book, published this year, is summarized this way: “He was a 20-year-old machine gunner from Pennsylvania in the thick of things in Vietnam, not sure if he would live to see the next sunset. She was a recent high-school graduate headed for nursing school, enjoying her last idyllic teenage Southern Indiana summer. At first, they were virtual strangers, patriotic pen pals, sending scores of letters to each other. Soon, the letters became love letters. In 2021, Bill Young and Nancy (Market) Young celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Here is their story of war and love, a true story told through the very letters they wrote in 1967.”
Bill and Nancy Young, of Rockport, and book co-editors Scott Saalman (Herald columnist) and Delaney Saalman will be present at the signing in support of, what Scott calls “The greatest love story never told—until now.” The Youngs will answer questions about Bill’s service in Vietnam, their pen pal courtship, and how the book came to life.
Books are $20. You can pay with cash or check. The book can also be ordered on Amazon. The Q and A session is free.
